Takumi Fujiwara continues his undefeated racing streak, touring the mountain passes of Japan with rival driver Keisuke Takahashi as a part of ex-racer Ryosuke Takahashi's racing team: "Project D". The final stage of Project D's expeditions is coming, and is to be the hardest yet. However, Takumi manages to avoid crashing and regains control. Delivery boy Takumi Fujiwara's ho-hum life hits the fast lane when his exemplary driving skills catch the attention of Gunma prefecture's racers. New Initial D the Movie Legend 1: Awakening. Meanwhile, Yuichi Tachibana overhears the situation and tells the Akina SpeedStars why Takumi refuses to race.

The film opens with Takeshi Nakazato, the Myogi NightKids' leader, challenging Ryosuke Takahashi, the Redsun's leader on a downhill battle one night.

Picking up right after the events of 'First Stage', 'Second Stage' continues to follow the underground Road Racing career of high-school student/delivery boy Takumi Fujiwara and friends as ... As Takumi embarks on his next morning delivery, he prepares himself for the next battles to come. Later on, the Akina SpeedStars suspect that Takumi's interest in Natsuki causes him to zone out, so Itsuki drives Takumi to Akina later that night to help the latter regain focus on racing. He then learns that steering less will let him clear corners faster.
After defeating every racing team, everything comes down to one last race. Akina's new downhill racing hero Fujiwara Takumi prepares for the final showdown against Red Sun's unbeaten leader and Akagi's fastest driver, Takahashi Ryosuke. He referenced to Takumi how good Nakazato is and that no one would think he's a coward if he refuses. She later confesses to Takumi about a flashback when Takumi punched her ex-boyfriend two years ago for sexually exploiting her. They were then ambushed by a posse of NightKids led by Nakazato's teammate, Shingo Shoji, and his red As their race starts, Takumi's tape nearly causes him to crash. That night, Takumi was seen driving Koichiro Iketani's Nissan Silvia S13. Takumi eventually overtakes Shingo by using his gutter technique. As the race starts, Nakazato takes the lead, whilst Ryosuke and Keisuke follow as spectators. After the battle, Takumi asks Ryosuke why he slowed down during the last section of the race, to which Ryosuke responds by telling Takumi the truth and accepts the defeat. She even apologizes to Takumi for not explaining it to him earlier, which Takumi accepts. An Initial D side story OAV which follows the lives of Mako and Sayuki, the "Impact Blue" SilEighty team from Usui and their troubles with racers and romance.
Will Project D succeed in the final and most difficult race of Initial D. And what is going to be the future of Project D after this final race. As Takumi and his girlfriend, Natsuki Mogi, go out on a date, Takumi reflects on how far he had been racing over the summer, and becomes curious about the outcome of Takumi's upcoming battle.
The movie is a retelling of the early stages of the manga and is split into three parts with the first part, Legend 1: Awakening released on August 23, 2014.
Initial D Legend 3: Dream is a 2016 movie directed by Masamitsu Hidaka and Tomohito Naka. The full trailer was revealed on 16 May 2014, containing an entirely new Japanese cast. Shingo, refusing to lose, decides to end the race in a double crash, but Takumi countersteers in time and moves out of Shingo's way, causing Shingo to crash, and lose the race.
Keisuke constantly wanted to hunt down and challenge the "monstrous" Eight-Six whereas Ryosuke, Keisuke's brother and leader of the RedSuns, uses the meet to initiate his plans to dominate the The next day, Iketani learns that his boss, Yuichi Tachibana, reveals that the Eight-Six is a tofu delivery vehicle owned by Bunta Fujiwara, Takumi's father. So, he bumps Takumi's Eight-Six, making him spin out. After Takumi explains his reason to Iketani, he agrees to let Takumi race. Later that night, they find that the Akagi RedSuns and the Akina Speedstars were already there. Akina's new downhill racing hero Fujiwara Takumi prepares for the final showdown against Red Sun's unbeaten leader and Akagi's fastest driver, Takahashi Ryosuke. The next day, the film ends with Takumi receiving a bouquet of flowers at work, along with a card addressed to "Panda Trueno", which then happens to be a formal challenge issued from Ryosuke. Enraged, Takumi drives recklessly, even going as far as cutting corners and bumping guardrails. More races and challenges for soon-to-be-graduate/drift racer Takumi Fujiwara. Iketani's desperately asks Bunta to be his replacement, though Bunta declines, claiming that he is too old to be Iketani's replacement.
